Introduction

We all start out with an idea — a dream of our own — but to make it happen, it truly takes a village.

To be fully honest I haven’t even figured everything out about being successful yet, but I’ve already learned so much, from starting my first marketing class to firsthand experience.

We often see big brands partnering with big influencers — but what about all the small businesses and creators who contribute to 55% of job opportunities, according to the U.S Bureau of Labor?

This post applies to anyone who wants to work for themselves and be successful.

Building connections, networking, and creating mutually beneficial collaborations are key to scaling your brand awareness.

Starting from Nothing

Let’s be honest: when you’re starting out, no one knows who you are.

Your brand didn’t exist a few minutes ago. And you’re not famous (yet), so why should anyone, believe you, buy from you, or follow you?

If you want more recognition and a loyal following, consider supporting others who are at a similar level to you, while still learning from those who’ve already achieved the success you’re aiming for.

It can feel overwhelming and even trigger imposter syndrome sometimes when your trying to reach ambitious goals in a space you are unfamiliar with.

But relying on your community and accepting help when it’s offered, the noise of doubt gets quieter — and the direction you are meant to go in becomes clearer.

Most importantly even if you’re not focused on the numbers and just want to do what you love (and maybe make a few extra bucks on the side) continue to represent yourself and brand according to your core values, and stay rooted in who you are.

Social Media is Marketing

Marketing is powerful — and today, social media is marketing.

UGC creators produce content specifically for advertising.

Influencers build trust with their audiences; when they recommend something, people actually listen.

Even regular old people advertise things every day — like that Nike sweat shirt you wore in a selfie with your friend, or the Dunkin’ coffee in your sunrise photo on your story.

Without even realizing it, you’re constantly marketing the products and brands you love just by sharing your everyday moments.

We’ve all heard, “Use social media to your advantage.” It seems like such a simple idea, but just creating an account and expecting engagement without offering something of real value, entertainment, or connection won’t get you very far.

To gain a following, you have to actively support and engage with others’ content. Otherwise, your account and business will remain invisible.

Why We Support Creatives

That’s exactly why we’ve launched the Guest Anomalies section on our blog — to help other small creatives voices to be heard and passions be discovered.

Including The Anomaly Spotlight a special featured post on our homepage and social media channels.

The Anomaly’s Journal takes pride in being an outlet for people who feel unseen, unheard, or out of place, and we’re dedicated to strengthening the entire creative space.

The Value of Collaboration

Collaboration is one of the most powerful tools for building a successful brand, teaching us the importance of teamwork, compromise, and innovation.

Two different creators can come together on a project or concept, and something new is born; an invention, lesson, or creative spark.

Supporting small businesses and creators — not just as collaborators, but as customers — is deeply fulfilling as well.

You become a part of someone’s journey as one of the first to recognize their potential and support their success.

It’s that feeling you get when you discover a new music artist before they blow up — and later, when everyone knows them, you feel proud to say, “I supported them before anyone else did.”

It’s like planting a seed, coming back to water it, and staying dedicated to keeping it alive.

You Hold the Power

As consumers, we often feel like our actions alone aren’t going to make a huge difference, but your money, time, and attention hold a lot of value. Where and how you spend them has a HUGE impact — especially when combined with others supporting the same cause.

Think about it: Walmart, Amazon, McDonald’s — none of them would be where they are today without the money from your pockets that helped them grow.

Small business and creators genuinely care about their supporters in a way that large corporations rarely can. Our appreciation, attention, and authenticity are unmatched.

Every customer interaction and business milestone is invaluable.

  • Share posts from your favorite small businesses or artists.
  • Leave reviews and comments — they make a difference.
  • Collaborate or exchange services with other creatives.
  • Buy directly from small brands instead of large retailers.

By reading this post, you’ve already taken a step toward supporting small creators — share it with others so they can too!

Final Thoughts

The first step to achieving something greater is admitting you can’t do it all alone.

Supporting small creators doesn’t just build community — it builds opportunity.

Whether you’re coming as a consumer or a business owner, every small action makes a difference.
