Introduction

The holiday season is the time to purchase any new tech you may need for the next few years.

Back in 2020, I got my first-ever MacBook Air for Christmas with the M1 chip, and it’s still doing pretty well today. But my first iPhone (the iPhone XR) is now officially an ancient artifact in the eyes of the Apple community, as it will no longer be supported with future updates.

Which leads me into this post! I’ve enjoyed my time within the full Apple ecosystem, but as time has gone on, I’ve been itching to inch out of that space…

On the hunt for a CUTE, fully functional Android flip phone with a physical keyboard for over a year now, I’ve probably come across every possible option on the internet—and every reason why the switch can change your life (for the better). And who wouldn’t want that?

So here I’m sharing my findings with you all. Maybe, during this time of intense deals and extended return dates, you can test some of these devices and find the right fit for you as I try to find one for myself.

Why Get a Dumbphone?

A dumbphone can be a great way to have a digital detox and remove all the extra noise that comes with having a mini computer on you all day, every day. Having the power to know anything in minutes sounds great, but it also removes the opportunity to be bored—one of the best ways to spark creativity—and the chance to use different tools for different tasks (creating separation instead of relying on one device for everything).

Beyond the emotional benefits, there are physical perks too:

  • Physical experience: especially with flip phones. Pressing real buttons, and physically closing the screen helps set boundaries.
  • Save money: your data or phone service bill may be lower, and you avoid constant ads and influencers encouraging your late-night impulse purchases.
  • Battery life: you use your cellular device less, so the battery lasts much longer. It becomes a reliable emergency tool and fulfills its original purpose—contacting others.

Top Dumbphones for 2026

Living in the U.S. in 2025 doesn’t leave many older flip-phone models still fully supported, especially with the shift toward 4G and 5G. Not to mention, many of us still need access to “essentials” like Spotify, Maps, or WhatsApp, while experiencing the benefits of disconnecting from the internet. Here are a few I’ve seen circulating around…

Typical Recommendations

Nokia 2780 Flip

Features: YouTube, Google Maps, web browser, email, camera, music player, FM radio, and classic games like Snake.

Sunbeam F1 Series

Features: Camera, music player, weather, Google Maps, Waze.

HMD Barbie Phone

Features: Barbie-themed interface, Easter eggs, Malibu Snake, digital balance tips, Barbie meditation, calendar, calculator, flashlight, music player (with FM radio), and Google Maps (directions only).

Modern “Dumbphone” Recommendations

Light Phone III

Features: Alarm, calculator, calendar, directory, directions, hotspot, music, notes/voice memos, podcasts, timer.

Punkt MP02

Features: Contacts, alarm clock, notes with reminders, calculator.

The Minimal Company’s Minimal Phone

Features: Full Google Play Store access, E-Paper display.

Top Picks for Y2K Aesthetics

Japanese and Korean flip phones have grown in popularity for their unique Android capabilities and looks. They can run many of the same apps as a regular smartphone but on a smaller screen with a T9 keyboard, which is honestly iconic.

However, if you buy one, make sure it’s unlocked and check the bandwidths supported in your area. Many imported phones won’t work for calls or internet access in the U.S.

Still, here are the top Y2K flip-phone picks:

  • Kyocera Digno Keitai 3 (902KC/903KC)
  • Samsung Folder Series
  • Sharp Aquos Flip Models
  • Mive Style Folder

Unique Smartphones

These phones aren’t trying to remove features, but they offer older phone aesthetics or built-in methods to reduce distractions, making them some of my personal top choices.

1. Nothing Phone 3

(The top phone on my Christmas wish list)

Features: Glyph Interface, AI-driven “Essential Search.”

2. Motorola Razr + 2025

Features: Smart flip phone, great for selfies with front camera, versatile cover screen.

3. Samsung Z Flip 7

Features: Smart flip phone, Galaxy AI + Gemini features, front-camera selfies and videos.

Utilizing What You Already Have

You can also take a trip to your phone’s app store and download apps designed to reduce distractions and curb screen-time impulses.

Top apps on the App Store:

  • ScreenZen
  • Opal
  • One Sec
  • BePresent

Many include friend features where you can compete or encourage each other to stay off screens, and super helpful for studying or remote work.

Conclusion

No matter what route you take, any action toward bettering your mental health and focus is a win.

Whether you purchase a new device or use the one you have, going into the new year with the intention to live more in the present is the greatest gift you can receive.

Set a goal of reducing your screen time by just 30 minutes a day, and gradually increase it. Remind yourself that those 30 minutes are going toward things that improve your quality of life now and in the future.

Until next time, my fellow anomalies. Stay Anomalous. Signing off…
